French Elections

Holland has won the french elections this is a fantastic step in the right direction for france and in my view for europe.
Next month parlementary elections are going to be the thing to watch .

Greece is an interesting beast as well . Looks like the people in Greece have voted given a vote of no confidence to the traditional parties and the far right and left have gained a lot of votes.

As in France and many other countries around Europe (world ) the far right is growing in % of votes which is a very sad and dangerous thing.

Recessions and austerity measures seems to be the key to this rise and we need to fight against this tide .

I like this for adbusters.org:
the old world has no future; their leaders have no solutions. Now everything from how we live to how we love and how the world is governed is up for grabs. Can we rise to the challenge? Let the tactical brainstorm begin.

Skills in PHP , Adobe Flex , Javascript will be a plus as you will be able to work on other projects.

Ducks !

Sitting at the ambulance station for more interviews/paperwork :-)
So far so good …

Back to the title of this post..
Ducks shooting season start today !
Hopefully we will not have any hunting related accident , whether it is taking your mates for a duck or too much beer and rolling off the quad bike / car ..

Overall it was a very quiet day. No calls which is a good thing, specially on duck shooting opening day, but it does make those 12hrs shift seems even longer .

St John Ambulances

It is saturday morning and i am at St John ambulances doing a shift as volunteer (06:00 until 18:00).I am still only an observer, as i am waiting for the paperwork to go thru and get on the next available courses , but i think i already got the bug :-) .

After working mostly on my own for the last few years spending hours one to one with myself and a few monitors i was starting fell like i was running around in circle, going nowhere. Being now part of a group of dedicated, motivated and friendly people is pulling me out of the “hole” and i am starting to feel myself again. Only trouble will be managing family/work/Ambulance balance ….

Post elections blues

So it is unless the specials votes are creating a huge surprise the next government will be National + ACT + United Future and 3 more years of dread and misery.

National did not get above 50% on their own and they need coalitions partners .60 MPs
ACT 1 MP
United Future 1 MP
Labour was seriously beaten and after Phil Goff resignation is going to leadership selection battle. 34 MPs
Greens did well even if they did not reach the level predicted in the polls 13 MPs
New Zealand First was the surprise with nearly 7% of the party votes and 8 MPs
Mana 1 MP
Maori Party did badly as well 3 MPs

around 30% of kiwis did not even bother to vote !

As a result of this not only we are getting a NAT / ACT / UF alliance but new dreadul rightwing policies are suddenly coming up following those negotiations. (Charter schools , private inssurer in competition with ACC , private business involved in welfare delivery ).

more for the 1% and less for the rest of us ..
